Deadlock Ranked Guide: Unlock Requirements, Calibration and Points
How Ranked works in Deadlock: 60 Standard wins, three eligible heroes, calibration, duo restrictions and Rank Points. Find out why your queue is still locked.

You have played dozens of matches, your favorite hero feels familiar, and Ranked is still locked. Or you returned from a break to discover that the guide you remembered seems to describe a different game.
There is a reason for the confusion. Since July 30, 2026, Standard and Ranked have been separate modes. Under the rules checked on October 2, entry requires 60 Standard wins and at least three heroes with 15 Standard wins each. Active account sanctions can also prevent you from queuing.
Start with those requirements. Hours played and total completed matches do not replace them.
Sixty wins plus three heroes does not mean 105 wins
There are two requirements, but you work toward them simultaneously. Your wins on individual heroes count toward the account total. You do not need to add another 45 wins on top of 60.
For example, 20 wins on one hero, 20 on another and 20 on a third produce 60 total wins and three qualified heroes. Both conditions are satisfied.
Sixty wins on a single hero leave you with only one Ranked-eligible character. The account total is complete, but the roster is still too small. You need to qualify at least two more heroes.
These are specifically Standard wins. Do not substitute match count, practice sessions or Street Brawl results. The in-game eligibility counters are more useful than manually adding up your history across different modes.
The Ranked Hub includes eligibility information and hero progress. If the queue is unavailable, first identify which part of the requirement is incomplete.
Why Ranked may still be locked
After checking wins, consider the other entry conditions.
Active restrictions. Low Priority and communication bans prevent Ranked participation. An experienced account does not cancel an active sanction.
Party size. Ranked allows solo and duo queues. If there are three of you, the problem is not your win count. Use Standard for larger groups.
Calibration. It must be completed solo. If you or your friend have not finished it, complete those matches separately first.
Rank difference. Ordinary duos must be within one full rank of each other. Eternus has its own restriction: both players must be Eternus and within three subranks.
The client can also report that it cannot determine eligibility. That is different from explicitly stating that you lack wins. Check the connection and try again later instead of assuming ten more random matches are the answer.
What calibration actually does
The current season begins your Ranked progression with eight solo calibration matches. Until that is complete, Obscurus represents an uncalibrated state rather than the lowest ordinary rank.
When introducing the system, Valve described a soft reset retaining some previous performance history. Calibration does not necessarily start from a completely blank account. The highest possible rank immediately out of calibration is Oracle VI.
If you ranked higher before the overhaul, a lower starting badge does not establish that you suddenly became worse. Your old position and a new placement after a reset and calibration cap are not directly interchangeable.
Bring familiar heroes into those eight matches. Picking a character from a new tier list while simultaneously learning the controls is a questionable way to demonstrate your normal level.
All Deadlock ranks in order
From lowest to highest:
Initiate → Seeker → Acolyte → Sentinel → Mystic → Ritualist → Emissary → Oracle → Phantom → Ascendant → Eternus.
Each rank contains six subranks, I through VI, with VI higher than I. Obscurus is separate as the uncalibrated state.
A badge gives you a useful reference point without explaining everything about a match. Players at the same rank can differ in laning, decision-making and familiarity with individual heroes. Losing the first five minutes to an opponent does not let you determine their “real rank” from one duel.
How many Rank Points do you gain or lose?
The current game data sets the base at 300 points per win or loss: positive for wins, negative for losses. Treat that as a reference, not a promise of an identical result after every match. Actual changes can vary with matchmaking expectations and win streaks. Older explanations using a 250-point base do not match this parameter.
A normal subrank promotion requires 1,000 points. Moving from VI of one full rank to I of the next requires 2,000. Within Eternus, subranks are assigned by percentile position rather than a single fixed points step.
That helps explain why the climb feels longer just before a new badge. It does not turn 1,000 points into a promise of “exactly four games.” Losses, bonuses and your starting progress change the calculation.
Promotions grant demotion-protection tokens: five for reaching a new full rank and two for reaching a new subrank. If a protected loss would lower your rank, a token is consumed instead. This does not mean five free losses without losing points anywhere on the progress bar; protection applies at the demotion boundary.
Treat the progress bar as a history of results rather than a personal kill counter. A flattering K/D does not establish that you should receive a fixed individual points bonus.
You can change heroes before a match, within limits
The Ranked pregame area allows one change to an available hero you have already qualified for Ranked. It also gives the team an opportunity to adjust lanes.
This can help repair an awkward composition. You might notice that nobody wants to initiate a fight and discuss a change. But a theoretically suitable character is of limited use if the person selecting them cannot play them comfortably.
The system is not a full alternating draft with every opposing decision exposed. Enemy changes do not appear as a continuously updated list. Avoid planning around the assumption that you can observe and respond to every switch until the last second.
New heroes still need personal qualification. During the October hero rollout, it is particularly easy to confuse a character being released with that character being available to you in Ranked.
What matters near the end of a season
Check the current season timer in the Ranked Hub before your final matches. A date from an older announcement may no longer match the active schedule, so use the client’s current information when planning your last games.
Under the announced rules, your highest achieved rank of the season is saved to your rank history. A bad session therefore does not automatically erase the peak you already reached from that history.
If a promotion is close, removing one recurring mistake is often a more useful goal than doubling your match count while exhausted. Review the last two deaths before your team lost an objective. Where were you separated from teammates? Which resources had you spent before the fight? You can open and download the replay without committing to reviewing every minute of the match.
Frequently asked questions
Does Ranked unlock after 60 matches?
The current requirement is 60 Standard wins, at least three heroes with 15 Standard wins each, and no blocking sanctions. A simple completed-match count is insufficient.
Do the hero wins come on top of the 60 account wins?
No. They count toward the total. Twenty wins each on three heroes, for example, satisfy both requirements.
Can I calibrate with a friend?
No. The eight calibration matches are solo. You can duo afterward if both players satisfy rank-distance restrictions and the other entry conditions.
Does Standard change my visible rank?
Standard is the unranked mode and does not move your Ranked badge. It still uses matchmaking; an absence of visible Ranked consequences does not mean teams are assembled randomly.
Can I leave without losing points when a teammate disconnects?
Do not treat the disconnect alone as permission. Wait for the game’s explicit safe-to-leave message and the conditions applying to your team. A temporary connection failure and a registered abandon are different states. Members of the abandoning player’s party also face separate consequences.
